Ties - A Brief History

The earliest Ties

The earliest examples of neckwear appear in ancient Assyria and Egypt, which used more than a hundred different terms for types variously described as a band or strap, depending on their uses. The Old Testament contains many references to knotty cravats, but it is scarves that have the more significant cultural significance. Renaissance painters such as Titian and Giorgione depicted gentlemen wearing scarves with embroidered badges, an early form of insignia worn by soldiers and knights.

Types of Ties

Wear a knitted tie to work to make a subtle statement that leaves your audience wondering what's so special about you and whether they're missing out on something. Opt for a sober design, such as Custom made, and you'll often be taken more seriously by your peers. Also, ensure they are finely woven, superbly soft materials that feel like silk against your skin. For those who want to walk down the more fashionable route, Silk Ties have become more prevalent in recent years and come in various designs that match almost any of today's work outfits. Some designs use eco fabrics instead of woven for practical purposes but provide a quality appearance which gives them an instant quality endorsement. Finally, for people looking for a classy look that's instantly appealing, try silk ties which add an extra touch of class to any shirt combination worn with them.

Club Tie Custom Designs

Buying Custom Tie Designs is common for business people who want to stand out from the crowd; typically, Club Tie custom designs will feature a logo and/or brand name, but many also like to include their favourite colour in their tie design. Although the options are essentially limitless, a skilled designer can often come up with something that falls outside of what you thought was possible when deciding on your design, which is why hiring someone with experience is usually essential if you're trying to do something particularly complex. A great way of finding suitable tie designs would be to browse through the hundreds of finished projects featured on our newest website McDade Club Ties.

Though ties are commonly worn only in matters of business and after-hours social gatherings, a Tie symbolises the real pleasure attached to any occasion. Ties have come a long way for centuries, transforming from small strips of cloth to sharp fashion accessories essential for Clubs, Schools, and the corporate workplace.

McDade's Guide to Tying Ties

Since the 1700s, ties have been an indication of sartorial elegance for men of distinction. Seen as a symbol of power and nobility, the necktie became popular among people of all classes for its sharp, professional look.

Yet, despite centuries of taking centre stage, many still struggle with the process of tying ties. We at McDade’s understand the true value of this elegant piece of clothing and the powerful effect it has on the appearance of the wearer, and people’s perception of them. As such, we have created this guide to demonstrate the process.

The first step with tying any tie is to find a mirror: Seeing what you are doing is important to create the perfect look!

  •  Put the tie around your neck, with the wide end on the right and the narrow end on the left, allow the tip of the narrow end to sit just above the bellybutton

  • Start by crossing the wide end over the narrow end and slip it up through the loop, letting it drop back down again.

  • Repeat this process, wrapping the wide end of the tie around the narrow section again, taking it up through the loop one more time.

  • This will have created a gap through which you will tie the knot by dropping the wide-end through the gap, centring it and tightening it, ensuring the narrow end is slightly shorter and sitting directly behind the wide end.

  • Practice, practice, practice: It sounds complicated, but the more you practice tying ties the easier it becomes.
